- The total 8th grade population in April of 1999 was 1343.
- 84 individual students or 6% of the total student population were
excluded from taking the test. The TIMSS-R exclusion criteria eliminated
students with cognitive impairments, physical limitations and nonnative
language speakers.
- Therefore, 1,259 students were eligible to take the test. 47 students
or 3.5 % of the students who were eligible to take the test were absent
on the day the test was given.
- Over 96% of all NCUSD 203 8th graders took the test. In comparison,
85% of the U.S. student sample size or 9072 students took the test.
In Singapore, 98% of the sample size or 4,966 students took the test.
- It may be helpful to be aware of how these numbers compare to the
United States and Illinois. Out of 9724 eligible students, 9072 or
94% took the test.
- In Illinois, 5007 students were eligible to take the test and 4781
or 96 % actually took the test.
- The percentage of students in 203 who actually participated in the
test is extremely important to us because the results from this study
indicate that all students attending District 203 are receiving a
world-class education.
