The United States ranked 34 out of 65 nations, states, districts
and consortia.
Out of 38 nations in 1999, 13 states and 14 districts and consortia,
Naperville Community Unit School District 203 8th graders outperformed
their peers in 33 nations, 13 states and 13 districts and consortia
in math. NCUSD 203 8th graders rank sixth in the world and first nationally
in mathematics.
The data reveals that three of the top five countries, Singapore,
Republic of Korea, and Chinese Taipei’s performance were significantly
higher than NCUSD 203.
However, NCUSD 203 8th graders performed statistically similar to
Hong Kong and Japan.
The chart below allows us to look at Naperville’s performance from
a national perspective. As the chart indicates, NCUSD 203 8th graders
outperformed all of the participating states in the TIMSS 99 study.
