Schedule of Events for Black History Month, 2005

Monday, January 31st.  All That Jazz!

  • Our own NCHS Jazz Band will perform during each of the three lunch periods in Cafe 53!  Since Jazz is a musical style developed originally within the African American culture it is appropriate to kick off our events with this special focus on JAZZ!

Monday, February 7th.  African American Read In.

  • Sometime during the day, individuals or small groups should take time to READ something written by an African American author or poet.  Lists of recommended titles and authors are available on this site and others!  Check out the NCHS Library's catalog for quick-at-hand materials!

  • During each lunch hour stop by Cafe 53 to hear our Speech Team Members bring African American Literature Alive! with thirty minutes of oral interpretation.

Monday, February 14th.  Harriet Tubman Visits NCHS

  • During 7th hour, we are honored to host guest lecturer Harriet Tubman a.k.a. Pamela Welcome.  Learn about life as an African American slave in the U.S.  Don't forget to sign up to bring  a class to visit with her too!  (Contact Lynne Nolan in the Activities Office.)
