VII. TECHNIQUE AND TRAINING The following is an outline of the technique you will learn during the season. This outline is to be used only as a guideline. You can't become a good wrestler by reading a book. Good technique is learned by structured repetition.
There are six areas of ability in wrestling. They are not much different than most other sports. The outline is derived from the six areas:
A. Natural Ability (below) B. Technique C. Speed E. Conditioning 1. General Suggestions 2. Suggested Foods 3. Diet Don'ts 4. Diet practices for wrestlers (essay) 5. IHSA Weight Control Program 1. Coaching Philosophy 2. Mat Strategies 3. Creating a successful attitude 4. Goal Setting 5. Self Control Rating Scale 6. Motivation
A. Natural Ability
While certainly natural athletic ability, skill, and speed and agility are a part of wrestling, we feel that anybody with the desire, determination and perseverance can become an accomplished wrestler. Many wrestling champions have started with very little ability. Our philosophy is that there is a champion wrestler inside every aspiring athlete, no matter what the skill level. |
