What is the Point of this Site?
___Mr. Mika’s Web Page was designed to be an online supplement for the fourth grade classroom. Students may use the links to prepare, practice, or review for many lessons and assessments in class. They may also use the resources to enrich their lessons and expand their knowledge.

___ The purpose of my social science site is to provide the fourth grade students and faculty of Naperville Community Unit School District 203 with a Web site to use in conjunction with the social science curriculum.

“What defines a region of the United States?”

___ This umbrella question has been the driving inquiry for the curriculum since 1999 although very few students entering fifth grade demonstrate true comprehension on what does define a region. The Internet, when used with constructivist pedagogy, can offer a more tangible connection to these regions then a text or picture book. I have included these resources into an integrated Web site focused on the five main regions of the United States of America as described in our Harcourt Brace text using exploration, activities, lessons, and online games.

Who is Joshua Mika?
I am a fourth grade teacher for Naperville Community School District 203. I have been teaching for seven years and did my undergraduate work at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. Recently I finished my work for a Master of Education: Teaching with Internet Technologies from Cambridge College. For the fall 2004 revision of my Web site, I have incorporated a couple of the projects I created from this program. I plan to continue learning and using technology in new and interesting ways to enhance my student's learning and my classroom.
