Steeple Run Elementary School serves students in the northeast section of Naperville Community Unit District 203. Naperville, a city of approximately 130,000 inhabitants, is located in the southwest corner of DuPage County. The city’s land area is about 34.16 square miles and is located 30 miles west of Chicago. According to 2000 census data, the median family income was $89,500, the average home value was $290,000 and the median age of Naperville residents was 34.2.
A statistical description of Steeple Run students is gathered from data collected in the 2002-03 Public School Fall Housing Report and 2002 Illinois School Report Card. Steeple Run was built in l977 and is the only school in District 203 that is situated in unincorporated Naperville. Steeple Run is located in Lisle Township and is serviced by the Lisle Fire Department and the DuPage County Police. Steeple Run is not in either the Lisle or Naperville Park Districts. Students can use the Lisle or Naperville Public library for a fee. Steeple Run School is located near Chicago Avenue, a major east/west road connecting Naperville to Lisle. The Steeple Run community is serviced by AT&T Broad Band; the rest of the schools in district 203 are serviced by Jones Intercable. About two-thirds of Steeple Run students are bused and the remainder are within walking distance. About two-thirds of Steeple Run students live in Green Trails subdivision and continue on to attend Kennedy Junior High School. The other one-third of Steeple Run students live in Steeple Run subdivision and continue on to attend Jefferson Junior High School. The certified teachers at Steeple Run school average 15 years of experience and 70% have obtained advance degrees.
