Dear Kindergarten Families,
Throughout the school year, your children will take turns bringing home a
very special book bag along with their own. One the front of the bag you
will see Curious George. Inside the bag will be a story about him to
share, his journal, and a Curious George stuffed toy.
On the night that your child brings Curious George home, we'd like you to
write down (on one page of the journal) the different activities Curious
George participated in at your house. Your child can add a picture to your
journal entry and any writing they'd like to add. (No pressure about the
writing.) If your child dictates the journal entry to you it will be
more meaningful to them. It will be fun to read entries of other children
as well as the Curious George story.
They only keep the special bag and its contents for one night. When they
bring it all back the next day, we'll share the entry with the class.
Another child will then take the bag home for the night. It is really
important that the bag and its contents come back after one night. The
other children will be looking forward to their turns and we'd like to
keep it going.
There are three main purposes of this activity. First of all, we feel that
it's lots of fun for the family to participate in a kindergarten project.
Secondly, this activity promotes journal writing as a personal experience
as well as reading. Thirdly, we'll all get to know a little more about
each other.
We're looking forward to finding out what Curious George did at your
house.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Doman and Mrs. Hatfield |
