From the desk of Nick R. Micensky “Our mission is to educate students to be self-directed learners, collaborative workers, complex thinkers, quality producers and community contributors.” Dear Parents, Family Reading Night Don’t be surprised if you see a throng of young Scott School students coming to school one evening in March in their pajamas. No, they haven’t lost track of time, they are attending a Family Reading Night. Our School Family Community Partnership (SFCP) will be sponsoring a Family Reading Night on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 for kindergarten and first grade students and their parents. The event will take place at Scott School that evening from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Students are encouraged to come to school in their pajamas for a comfy, fun night of reading. Activities have been planned that are designed to engage young readers and their parents. Bonnie Mauer, from Anderson’s Bookstore and a former Scott School teacher, will be conducting informative book talks to expose children and their parents to new and old literature that young students find appealing. Read-alouds featuring staff members reading favorite books will be an activity that all will want to attend. There will also be an area for families to read together. Bring your own favorite books or read books provided by Miss McKissick, Scott School’s own Learning Resource Center Director. The student council will be helping greet attendees and check their coats, too! Please plan on attending this unique event and help us celebrate the joy of reading! Thanks go out to all the parents and staff on the SFCP for organizing this great Family Reading Night. Kindergarten Thank you to everyone that shared Kindergarten Round Up information with families that currently do not have a student attending Scott School. We had a good turnout. It is important to confirm how many students will be enrolled as soon as possible, because we use this information to determine how many sections of kindergarten that we will have for next year. If you know of any neighbors that will have a child in kindergarten next year, please ask them to call the school office at 630-420-6477. Registration for 2009 – 2009 As in the past few years, we will be conducting registration in the spring again this year. Information regarding this process will be sent home in April with all materials due back in early May. I thought I would give you a “heads up” now since for some it will help in your home budget planning to know that school fees will be collected in the spring. Parent/Teacher Conferences Parent /Teacher Conferences are scheduled for: Thursday, March 13th, 5:00 – 8:30 PM and Friday, March 14th, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM If you have not scheduled your child’s conference at this point, please contact the school office to do so. Sincerely, Nick Micensky Principal
