About the programs...

Mr. Mark Bailey received his Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1980. He received his Masters Degree in Leadership and Administration from North Central College in 1999. Mr. Bailey is an accomplished trumpet player, performing with the DuPage Symphony from 1980-1985 as Associate Principal, and performing with the Southwest Symphony from 1988-1992 as Principal Trumpet. He also managed the Southwest Symphony from 1989-1992.

Mr. Bailey formed Bailey's Chamber Brass in 1983, a brass quintet dedicated to performing classic and contemporary brass music. The group continues to perform at a variety of functions in the Chicagoland area.

Mr. Bailey has also been a piano tuner and repair technician since 1981.

Mr. Jerry Zitko has taught orchestra in the District #203 school since graduating from DePaul University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 1983. He received his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from North Central College in 1999. Mr. Zitko is a member of the American String Teachers Association and the DePaul University School of Music Board of Directors.

Mr. Zitko currently teaches orchestra students at three District #203 schools; Madison Junior High, Scott Elementary, and River Woods Elementary. He also teaches Bluegrass Strings at Madison.

The
Scott Band performs several times throughout the year, including winter program performances, a spring concert, and the fifth grade band festival. Throughout the year students are working on performance music, as well as, achievement lines and scale requirements. Additional performances are occasionally scheduled for special events.

The
Scott Orchestra program consists of a weekly small group lesson and an orchestra rehearsal. Small group lessons focus on developing note reading and technical skills, while the orchestra rehearsal provides an opportunity to apply these skills to the preparation of music for performance.

In addition to participating in their school orchestra, advanced string players also have the opportunity to audition for the district-wide Honor Strings Orchestra.

Orchestra meets at Scott School on Tuesdays, during the school day.
