We enjoyed meeting with all of you during conferences. Your children are
very important to us, and we value your input!
In Social
Science we have been focusing on Chicago, past and present. Students have
been learning why Chicagos location was important to its growth and
development. Our field trip to the Chicago Historical Society was a great
opportunity to learn more about the development of this great city.
Writing has continued to be a big focus
for us. At this point, we have written expository, narrative, and
persuasive pieces. The children are learning how to write an interesting
introduction or Lead. There are many different types of leads. Students
can use dialogue, ask a question, describe an action or unusual image, or
state an interesting fact. We are also teaching the children to elaborate
the body of their writing piece. This can be accomplished by adding more
details, and using vivid language such as similes and adjectives. Keeping
a 3 to 5 paragraph piece of writing organized can be a difficult task, but
the children are making great strides. They are also learning how to edit
their writing and make revisions when needed. We hope you will see much
growth in your childs writing this year. |
