LRC - LIBRARY RESOURCE CENTER...
what's it all about?
Students access the LRC, library resource center, for computer instruction, research, learning activities, and book checkout.  Each week teachers bring their class into the LRC for computer instruction which supports the curriculum.  Students learn keyboarding, word processing, presentation programs, and how to create data bases.  All applications are used to support and enhance the curriculum.  Computer basics are begun, as early as kindergarten.

Also weekly, students have an assigned book checkout time.  However, they may checkout books on a daily basis whenever they have permission from their classroom teacher, and desire to do so.  The LRC houses approximately 10,000 titles that support our curriculum and are available for recreational reading.  Students in grades one through five also have access to  "Accelerated Reading"  which is a reading incentive program for all students.

Teachers and students also use the LRC, located in the center of the school for additional activities throughout the day.  There is never a dull moment in our LRC!

T
he LRC is staffed by four individuals:  two full time assistants, one half-time assistant,  and the LRC director.
Mrs. Joanne Larsen
, our instructional assistant, works with students who need additional help with their classroom work. Teachers sign up students for her to work with individually, or in small groups, as their needs require.  Mrs. Larsen also facilitates the first grade computer instruction.  Working with the first grade teachers, she plans and instructs first graders in basic word processing and presentation projects.

Mrs. Valerie Taylor is our computer assistant instructor, or CAI. She works with the classroom teachers to plan and teach technology which support the learning objectives of each class.   She also assists us with computer "glitches" both in the lab, and in the classrooms.

Mrs. Marilyn Wandalowski is our half time technology assistant.  She works in the mornings at our checkout desk and in our tech lab when needed.  She also shelves books and keeps our stacks in "tip top" order, so students can easily find the books they need.

Mrs. King, the LRC Director, manages the LRC.  Her main responsibility is to organize programs, volunteers, and order books and materials needed to facilitate the programs.  She works weekly with kindergarten in providing instruction and literature in conjunction with the kindergarten program.  She also meets with other grade levels as needed, providing assistance with research, literature and library information skills.

The LRC also relies on volunteers to assist us with our programs. Currently we have about sixty volunteers who work in our tech labs, and with our students, helping us to help the children. We couldn't do it without them!

That's what the LRC is all about.  It's a hub of activity, surrounded by love.
