Technology at Naperville North High School

Technology is used in many ways at North High School: to learn the basic principles of computer use, to adapt the tools that are available and complete an authentic product, and to use the technology for new and different applications. Below are thumbnail photos of a few applications of technology in the High School. Just click on any picture to see a larger version of the photo.

Multimedia

The graphic arts lab is the site for students to create and print their own designs in several different formats. In addition, the Business department teaches a course in multimedia.

Business Applications

This room is equipped with 26 PC's that have word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentation software that will output to either a black and white or color laser printer.

Networking

Students use the PC's around this room to study and take tests with the Cisco networking class. Hardware such as routers and switches are also available to set up small networks.

Video Editing

These computers allow student teams to capture video, edit their footage within the computer, then output the final product onto videotape or video CD format.

Automotive Technology

The auto shop has computer access that allows students to retrieve up-to-date information on different makes of cars.

Computer Assisted Drafting

This room offers students an opportunity to design and build an object that can be visualized in 3 dimensions and modified.

Computer Assisted Instruction

The C.A.I. Lab has 61 desktop computers for class and individual use along with scanners and laser printers.

College/Career Placement Center

These computers allow access to special programs for previewing college and for running career interest inventories.

Digital Art

Students use their creativity to develop and present their work. Images can be produced in two and three dimensional forms with unique color combinations and designs.

Journalism

The journalism lab in room 263 has desktop PC's and a large format printer for the layout design and production of the school newspaper.

I.M.C.

The IMC (learning resource center) has two floors with many different types of materials, both in hard and electronic forms.

Literacy Center

The Literacy Center computer lab has special software that allows a student to conduct a thorough analysis on a paper, whether it's grammar or style, punctuation or word usage.

Science

Students use PC's for data acquisition and analysis. Computers in physics allows the students to record experiments that run in a fraction of a second, sampling data for graphical analysis of the results.

Keyboarding

Room 123 houses computers and software for students to practice their keyboarding skills. In addition, a ceiling mounted data projector allows the instructor to demonstrate lessons to everyone from the teacher workstation.

Science

The science computer lab has software and hardware appropriate for the earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics classes. A "smartboard" is installed to electronically record written work.

Yearbook

The yearbook staff and sponsors have special software provided by the publisher that allows them to design and upload pages directly to the factory.
