The Interview
Generate a list of questions in your class that would be helpful in an interview. These questions should be typed up and printed for each member of your class.
In October, you need to visit the school IMC (library) and research general information about your country. Read one or two encyclopedia sources for general information. Take notes on the history of the country, the topography of the country, major industrial centers and products produced in the country. You need a general idea of the educational system and the philosophy, government, and characteristics of the people. Also refer to the Naperville North Web Page for more help. There are web links that may be useful to you.
After pulling up the Web Page at NCUSD203.org go to Schools/ North/Research and then to Introduction to Teaching/Comparative Education.
Using the general information and the questions you developed in class, conduct an interview of a person by e-mail, in person, by mail, or on the phone. After you have done the interview, type up the answers to your questions.
Your completed interview sheet will be collected in class on _________________________
Use this format to type your interview results:

You may ask the person to send you materials to include in your research. You may wish to add to the list of questions we generate in our class to focus on an area of interest to you. For example: You may want more information on the life of a teacher in this country. What are the daily hours/schedules for a teacher? Are most teacher’s men or women? What is the starting salary of a new teacher? Is the teaching profession respected in the country? How much education does a teacher need? What advances can the teacher make in their career?

The outline of your paper should be typed using standard format. Main topics and bibliography will be due on this date. Type your outline and your bibliography to turn in on this date. Your final paper (written ) is due on ___________________________
Using your outline, write your paper for final grading. Include the Bibliography, use internal documentation as instructed in your Naperville North Handbook. Double space, font size 12. Run your spell check and your grammar check. It will be appropriate to make some comparisons to the American system in the conclusion paragraph(s).
The rubric will guide you. Papers will be returned after Winter Break. Make a second copy of the paper for yourself and save it to disk. This paper will be a valuable tool in college. You need to be able to transport the information. You will also need to prepare your presentation using the information you gathered in the research.
Your graphic organizer should be included in the paper and it will count as one of the pages. Be sure to diagram how the school system is set up. You will transfer this graphic organizer to an overhead or to a Power Point slide for your presentation in January.
There will be one week to prepare for the presentation when we return from Winter Break. Therefore we will not have a great deal of time. Partners will present together. You may wish to prepare parts of your presentation during break. Divide up the project and take responsibility to complete your portion of the presentation.
Presentation date:____________________________
The oral presentation rubric will guide you in preparation for your final exam. One practice session is recommended and will help you with timing and the smooth flow from one topic to another.
