GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

ALL GRADUATING CLASSES  
Classes totaling 21 credits are required as follows:  
Social Science (B)  2.5  credits
Fine Arts (c)    .5   credits
Applied Sciences & Technology (D)  1.0  credits
Physical Education (E)  3.5 credits
Health    .5 credits
Consumer Education (F)    .5 credits

A. Within the three and one-half (3.5) credits required in Communication Arts, certain classes are required.  See the Program Planning Guide for specifics.
B. Within Social Science, each student must complete one (1.0) credit in United States history and one-half (0.5) credit in government.
C. The Fine Arts requirement of one-half (0.5) credit may be fulfilled through various departments:
  - Art: All classes
  - Communication Art: Acting, Advanced Acting, Play Production, Film Composition and Analysis. Film Production, Creative Writing, Humanities
  - Family and Consumer Sciences: Fashion Merchandising, Interior Design, Applied Interior Design
  - Technology Education: Intro to Graphics, Architectural Drafting, Floral Design, Advanced Floral Design
  - Music: All classes
D. To satisfy the Applied Science &  Technology requirement, a total of one credit is required from one or more of the following departments: Business Technology, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Career and Technological Education.
E. Every student is required by state law to enroll in and pass a physical education course during each semester of attendance except when enrolled in Health, usually during sophomore year.  Physical Education will be included in the grade point average.  (Exceptions will be considered for grades 11 and 12 only in accordance with the Board of Education Policy 5129.1 Physical Education Waiver.)
F. A one-semester course in Consumer Education is required.  Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 may elect to take the Consumer Education proficiency exam for the State of Illinois.  If a student successfully completes the proficiency examination, that student will be excused from the required Consumer Education course.  No credit will be issued for the successful completion of the examination.
G. Electives are defined as any courses that are not required for graduation.
H. Students must complete Algebra I and a mathematics course that includes geometry content in order to fulfill the mathematics requirements.
