Wind Symphony
Wind Symphony is the second
of the five concert band classes at NNHS. The group has earned a state
reputation, having been invited to the SuperState Contest at the University
of Illinois twice (the only "second band" to have ever been
invited). The wind symphony has traveled to Gatlinburg where they participated
in the "Smokey Mountain Music Festival". The band also traveled
down to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the 2002 Dixie Classic Grand National
Adjudicators Invitational Festival. The NNHS Wind Symphony was the only
“second band” to be invited to this National event. The
Wind Symphony participates with the Naperville Central Wind Symphony
in the annual Naperville Wind Symphony Festival, which students perform
for each other, and together in a combined band - with a guest conductor
from a university or college in or near Illinois. Many students in the
wind symphony are District IMEA members. Selection is (as for all our
concert groups) by audition, which usually consists of the required
music for IMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association). Private study
is highly recommended for members of this band.
