Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is the most
select of the five concert band classes at NNHS. The group has earned
a local and international reputation, having won both the SuperState
and Downbeat Magazine awards for best wind ensemble, as well as performing
at the 1997 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. The Wind Ensemble has
traveled to Walt Disney World, as well as Nashville where they were
the honor band at the Grand Ole Opry. The band has twice been invited
to perform at the Bands of America Concert Band Festival, where in 1999,
they were the featured group. Wind Ensemble also traveled down to Chattanooga,
Tennessee, for the 2002 Dixie Classic Grand National Adjudicators Invitational
Festival. The Wind Ensemble participates with the Naperville Central
Wind Ensemble in the annual Naperville Wind Ensemble Festival, which
students perform for each other, and together in a combined band - with
a guest conductor of national renown. Many students in the wind ensemble
are members of the Chicago and DuPage Youth Symphonies, as well as District
and All-State IMEA members. Selection is (as for all our concert groups)
by audition, which usually consists of the required music for IMEA (Illinois
Music Educators Association). Private study is highly recommended for
members of this band.
