Music Theory is a non-performance
music elective designed to develop musical literacy in students by giving
them a background in music reading, construction, and appreciation.
This will be accomplished through reading, writing, listening to, and
analyzing music. Students will study the underlying principals of music,
including written harmony and ear training. Analysis, composition, and
history/appreciation will be stressed. These are important skills for
musicians at any level. Computer assisted instruction will be included.
This class fulfills the fine arts requirement and is intended for students
with limited to moderate musical experience. This class is designed
to be comprehensive in scope. Prior experience (of any kind) is suggested
but not required.
