Percussion Studies
The Percussion Studies class
is for all high school percussionists not assigned to Wind Ensemble
or Wind Symphony. Though all Percussion students audition for band placement,
most will be enrolled in this class which addresses both musical fundamentals
as well as situations unique to the modern percussionist. This class
allows students to focus on the various techniques, which differ from
percussion instrument to percussion instrument, and will address the
specific needs of these students.
Students in the Percussion
Studies class will perform a wide range of musical works, written especially
for percussion ensemble, while at the same time working on the music
from the band to which each student is assigned. Students are expected
to practice a minimum of 45 minutes daily, or the length of time necessary
to be technically proficient on the excerpt requested for the following
rehearsal. It is expected that all students will have their music, sticks/mallets,
practice pad, and pencils each day. Students are expected to keep sticks/mallets
and instruments in excellent playing condition. Students are required,
as a co-curricular component, to be in attendance at all performances
in which they are scheduled to play.
