The objectives of this course are to develop communication skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in everyday situations and to develop an understanding and appreciation of the customs and cultures of Spanish speaking people. An integral part of the course is class participation which includes pair and group work. Vocabulary and grammar are systematically re-entered throughout the program to strengthen student learning. Tapes, films, computer software and other activities are part of the textbook program.
In this intermediate language course, students continue the skill development and the understanding of culture as defined in the Spanish I objectives. Vocabulary is expanded and used in situational contexts while emphasis is increased on reading and writing skills. Increased usage of Spanish as the language of conversation in the classroom is an integral part of student participation. Tapes, computer software and other activities continue to be part of the program.
This class and Level IV represent the stage in which students can most benefit from language study. Students are encouraged to speak and write only Spanish. This is stimulated by reading short stories and cultural readings. Most sophisticated grammatical concepts are learned along with a thorough review of grammar.
Spanish IV combines the reading of modern Spanish and Latin American plays and novels with the extensive study of the culture, language, and attitudes of the Spanish-speaking world. Films, filmstrips, periodicals and recorded materials of all kinds will transport the student into the Spanish countries improving conversation skills, composition, reading, and listening skills.
