ART COURSE OFFERINGS |
Art course offerings are designed to develop your visual sensitivity, creative talents, cultural appreciations, and lifelong skills that will enhance your career and personal potential. Whether you're a stick figure flunky or a budding Michelangelo, we've got the course for you. Pack an awesome portfolio by graduation. One fine art course is required for graduation, so find out how art smart you can be. To satisfy the graduation requirement, it is recommended that you take A.P. Art History, Design Concepts, Drawing 1, Ceramics 1, or Photography 1. All art courses are one semester and worth ½ credit except for A.P. Art History and A.P. Studio Art which is 2 semesters and 1 credit. See the course book for more details.

Concepts |
Good place to start! Explore the elements of art and principles of design. Use a variety of media. Discover art of other cultures. Learn how to draw well, shade three-dimensionally, and apply expressive color. Learn basic skills and vocabulary. |

Drawing
1 |
It's recommended, but not required, that you first take Design Concepts to develop a good foundation. In Drawing 1, focus on composition and strong, perceptual drawing ability. Use lots of cool media such as colored pencil, ink, scraffeto board, and charcoal. |

Imaginative, aesthetically sensitive, keenly perceptive, you're ready to work on sophisticated compositions. Master your drawing skills. You must be a highly responsible person who can meet deadlines and handle criticism. |

Got yourself hooked? With an instructor, customize an individualized program in your area of specialization. Mixed-media is also encouraged. Develop a portfolio showing personal style and vision. Creativity, enthusiasm, and craftsmanship are seriously expected. |

Tired of pencil? Pick up a brush. Develop oil and acrylic painting skills along with other media. Expand your knowledge of color and its design application. Study such art movements as Realism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Dadaism. |

Michelangelo would be proud! Learn advanced techniques and color delineation. Develop style, craftsmanship, and personal expression. Delve into advanced color theory, intricate textural techniques, spatial relationships, and more. |

You want to make money from your art. Develop skills that prepare you for the job market in areas such as cartooning, illustration, package design, and graphic design . Explore both traditional and computer techniques. Develop ideas and visual communication skills. |

Got the 2-D dull- drums? Get real with 3-D! Learn the basic techniques of hand building ceramics: pinch, coil, slab, and mold forming. Glaze and fire creations that are functional, decorative, and/or expressive works of art. |

You're ready to get behind the wheel, the potter's wheel, that is! Develop skills needed to first create various cylinder shapes. Then as you become proficient, make pitchers, bowls, platters, and a chip and dip. |

Ready, aim, shoot! Use your own 35 mm manual camera to capture favorite subjects on black and white film. Learn to compose and use lighting to your advantage. Develop film and print paper (your cost). Become the creative photographer. |

Explore advanced techniques in B&W photography using a digital medium, including darkroom chemistry, camera filters, enlarger manipulation and studio lighting. Students must have their own digital camera. |

Placement Studio Art |
Highly motivated upper classmen perform at the college level. It requires a year long commitment to complete a portfolio which consists of 24 pieces, half demonstrating a breadth of experiences in media and techniques, and the other half that show a concentration on a theme or artistic concern. |
