Check your suggested budget column for housing so you know
where to start. If your salary is very low, you may have one roommate and would
split the rent only. The room mate can be someone you met in college. (No one from a consumer education class can be your
roommate.) All other costs will be yours-utilities and insurance.
You will want to look in the housing sections of the local newspapers
or Apartment Finders brochures until you find an apartment that
fits your criteria. You may use the internet, but the apartment MUST be in the Chicago
area. If planning a roommate
to help reduce rent cost, TWO bedrooms will be required. No studio
or one bedroom apartments for two people.
Consider:
 | Location in relation to work and family |
 | Safe or comfortable environment |
 | Amenities that you prefer |
 | Utilities offered |
 | Price |
Once selected, cut it out, again,
neatness counts,
and attach it to an 8-1/2 x 11 inch page. OR: Use computer graphics and
design.
If using an internet source, do not cut apart
unless a second copy with site and date is included in the project.
The "ad" or apartment information should include:
 | Description of the apartment |
 | Utilities that are included in the
rent (If this information is not found in the ad, call
the phone number and get the information) |
 | Address including street
and town (You will need the address because
renter’s insurance will have to be "obtained" and an address is
required. You may have to call the ad phone number to establish the
address.) |
 | Phone number of where to call to get any information |
 | Rent (this amount will be placed
in the final column sheet) |
A several sentence paragraph will need to be developed
indicating why this particular apartment was selected and included in the
portfolio. Incorporate information as outlined above. |
