NAME: ROSIN WEED     Silphium integrifolium 
DESCRIPTION:

Leaf:  Opposite, ovate-lancelate, acuminate, toothed and rough to the touch measuring 7 to 15 cm long and 2.5 to 5 cm wide.
Flower:  Yellow heads up to 5 cm broad, composed of both disk and ray flowers, numbering up to 25. Sunflower-like in appearance.
Present Early June to early October.
Stem:  2-4 feet in height and rough.




DISCUSSION:

A native, warm season perennial belonging to the Compositae family. 


DISTRIBUTION:

Common in the prairies of Illinois.  Also ranges from Wisconsin south to Alabama and Kansas.
