The Library Resource Center (LRC) in an integral part to every curricular
area here at Lincoln Jr. High School. All three grades use the LRC for
a variety of research projects as well as for free reading materials.
The resources found here strongly support our curriculum as well as provide
for many areas of interest to both students and staff. We believe that
the LRC is a service that is provided to the faculty and students at LJHS.
Our LRC contains over 13,000 volumes, as well as hundreds of audio visual and computer software programs. We are fully automated using the Alexandria circulation system by Companion. Students visit the LRC every two weeks through their Language Arts class and are allowed to check out two library books. Books are checked out for three weeks and can be renewed once for an additional three weeks. LRC hours are from 7:50 a.m. until 3:10 p.m. when school is in session.
We encourage and promote reading as a life long skill. One way in which our school encourages this is by participating in the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader’ Book Award program. The RCYRBA program is Illinois’ children’s choice book award. Students read from the RCYRBA Master List of 20 Titles, which is a special highlight for students at Lincoln. Any student who reads a minimum of three of the nominees can vote for their favorite Caudill book. Voting is conducted in February. The votes are submitted from throughout the state and the RCYRBA winner is announced in mid-March. To see the current book list, the past winners, and more information about the Caudill Award, visit the official website www.rcyrba.org.
As a part of the LRC, we have a computer lab that contains 33 Omitech
computers that run off of a Windows XP system. The Internet is also a part
of the computer lab. The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is a part of
registering your child in District 203. This means that your student will
have access to the Internet through class assignments with teacher supervision.
Students also use Microsoft Windows XP, which includes Word, Excel, and
Power Point.
