World Geography

 

Introduction:  The purpose of World Geography in 7th grade is to give students a broad overview of the cultural interactions and historical perspectives around the world.  Within this overview geographical locations and current events will be stressed so as to give students a visual concept of world geography to place world events as they occur in the everyday world.

1st Trimester:

C.       What makes a Quality Country (United States as Example)

i.     Geography Qualities

iii.    Statistical Qualities

iv.    Government Discussion

II.                North and South America

A.       US and Latin America Capitals

B.       Latin America Project (Statistical Comparison of Two Regions)

2nd Trimester:

I.               Europe (European Union)

A.       Capitals and geography of both areas

B.       European Union project and debate

C.       District Assessment

II.              Russia and the Eurasian Republics

III.             Asia (South, East and Southeast Asia)

 

3rd Trimester:

I.               Northern Africa and Southwest Asia

II.              Sub-Saharan Africa

III.             Latin America

Grading:  For homework, grading scale, and absent policies see "Team Policies."  There will be no rounding at all.  If a grade is a 89.7% it will remain a B.

The final trimester grades are calculated as follows:

    Homework: 55%

    Test and Quizzes: 25%

    Participation: 10%

Extra Credit:  Extra credit opportunities will be provided throughout the trimester.  It is the student's prerogative if they want to participate in the extra credit.
