Honors Mathematics

 

The seventh grade curriculum for honors mathematics includes continued exploration of various real world applications.  The lessons in this course will enable students to build on what they know and to become actively involved in exploring, modeling, and communicating mathematics using a variety of tools, including technology when appropriate.  This course will prepare students for algebra and geometry as individual courses.  The textbooks used throughout the year include Gateways and two books from the Connected Math series.

The goals of this course are for all students to:   

 

¨     Learn all the middle grades' mathematics concepts and skills that prepare them for high school and beyond.

¨     Develop the reasoning, problem solving, and communication skills that enable them to apply mathematics to real-life situations.

¨     Value mathematics and become confident in using it to make decisions in daily life.

 

The focus of honors mathematics in seventh grade will include the following major topics:

¨     Data Analysis

¨     Geometry

¨     Probability

¨     Statistics

¨     Algebra

Math is not a spectator sport! All students are expected to actively engage themselves in their daily math experiences, not only in math class, but across the curriculum as well!
