The textbook series, Bon Voyage, is particularly rich in topics, activities, and media. Components of this series include: a student textbook, a student activity book, videos, audio CD's, visuals and a tremendous variety of in-class oral and written activities. The emphasis of this program is on communication.
In class, students are active participants: volunteering for oral work, responding when called upon, and contributing to group activities. Students need to be prepared for class and must bring required materials daily.
Daily work in the textbook and activity book will contribute to your student's success in the program. To help students be organized in their study habits, we recommend that they write down their assignments in their assignment notebook. Parents can play a valuable role by monitoring the assignments and helping students practice at home. For additional practice, students will have access to audio tapes and computer CD's. There may be an opportunity for parents to purchase the computer CD's that coordinate with our program.
Although students will not be fluent upon completion of grades 7 and 8 at the middle school or the first year at the high school (level I), successful students will be able to converse about everyday situations. Students will also be able to read and write French at a novice level. Continuing language study all four years of high school will allow students to attain a greater level of proficiency. Students will be able to satisfy college entrance requirements, receive advanced college placement, and perhaps receive college credit if they continue through level V. A high level of proficiency will also provide the possibility of using French in their future career in this global society.
