ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT BEING A 6TH GRADE CUB!
One of the greatest struggles of a sixth grader is to be organized and to get all of the assignments turned in on time. The CUBS team teachers teach and help students to be organized. Here is some important information that is helpful for parents to know.
v Students must write all assignments in the assignment notebook and bring it to class every day.
v Parents are encouraged to check assignment notebook daily to ensure consistency and homework completion.
v Teachers sometimes write a short note to parents in the assignment notebook. Parents should ask their child to inform them anytime a teacher writes in the assignment notebook.
v The assignment notebook contains other school information that is helpful and useful.
v Students have been informed of materials needed for all classes.
v Students are expected to bring all required materials to class each day.
v Some teachers also post a list by the door of materials needed for that day when necessary.
v All students should know how to use a combination lock. Please practice on a lock at home if necessary. Students should not share their locker combination with anyone.
v If a student is having a locker problem that will cause him or her to be late for class, he/she needs to report the problem to the teacher. The teacher will advise the student what to do.
v Students need to think of their locker as a storage cabinet to store their books, jacket, extra school supplies, and more.
v Students may not have time to go to their locker after every period. Leaving the classroom to get materials is a disruption to instruction and is highly discouraged.
v Each teacher has the assignment on the chalkboard in his/her classroom for students to copy.
v The assignments are listed on the web at www.schoolnotes.com (after typing the zip code of 60565, find the section titled HOMEWORK HOTLINE).
v Students are expected to come to class with the assignment completed each day.
v Students are penalized when the assignment is not completed when it is due.
v All make-up work (including quizzes and tests) is the student’s responsibility to complete and turn in.
v Supervised Study is ninth period for every 6th
grader at
v Students need to bring ALL of their homework to supervised study in order to complete as much as possible at school. What is not done becomes homework.
v When appropriate, a student may assist another student on assignments.
