BULL HOMEWORK POLICY

The Bulls team believes that parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for students. We ask that parents make homework a top priority by providing the necessary supplies and a quiet environment. An established daily homework time is helpful. Also, please provide encouragement and support as your child works on the homework. If homework concerns occur, such as consistent frustration or homework avoidance, please contact the teacher immediately.

We believe homework is important. It is valuable aids in helping students make the most of their school experience. It also prepares students for upcoming lessons as well as extending and generalizing concepts learned. Homework teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study habits. We strongly believe in the value of positive support for children in developing good study skills.

Homework usually involves an extension or generalization of concepts learned in class. In addition, homework may take the form of a long-range project or studying for a test. Unfinished class work should be considered homework as well. Band, orchestra, and chorus students are expected to make up class work missed for lessons or concerts as homework. Tests and quizzes missed for lessons need to be made up by the following day. All homework should be recorded in your child’s assignment notebook. You may check the accuracy of the assignment notebook by calling the homework hotline at 420-6370 ext. 6201 or http://www.schoolnotes.com. Please set aside a time nightly for your child to review his/her assignment notebook. If there is no specific homework assignment, we expect students to use their nightly homework time to review class notes, work on long-term projects, or read their personal reading book for Language Arts.

Homework is not negotiable. All students will complete all homework assigned. Students choosing not to complete their homework by the due date will earn a lower grade but will need to complete the assignment. If late assignments become a pattern, parents will be notified by the 6th grade counselor. For each day a student is absent, he/she will be given an equal number of days to complete the assigned work. If the student is ill on the day a test is scheduled or a project due, the student will be expected to submit the project or take the test on the day they return to school. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain assignments missed by calling the homework hotline, by calling a study buddy, or using schoolnotes.com. Vacations when in school is in session interrupt the learning process and are discouraged. Please consult the student handbook for vacation policies.

We are looking forward to a positive and cooperative school year!

Your support and encouragement is most appreciated.
