Lincoln's Art Program

As reflected in our District 203 philosophy, goals and classrooms, our K-12 art staff believes that an effective, comprehensive art program will:

  1. Assist students in developing an awareness and appreciation for the visual arts including their interdisciplinary relationships.
  2. Assist students realization that art is an essential method of visual communication.
  3. Provide students with studio opportunity to experience and produce art, explore a wide variety of media, tools, technologies and techniques.
  4. Encourage the development of students' confidence in their own ability to create and reflect upon art, to foster pride and self-esteem.
  5. Teach appropriate use and care of tools.
  6. Promote craftsmanship that builds confidence in their artwork.
  7. Develop an appreciation of art in diverse cultures past and present.
  8. Stress creative problem solving and critical thinking skills in the production, perception, discussion, and assessment of artistic expression.
  9. Use multiple approaches to accommodate a variety of learning styles, ability levels and behaviors.
  10. Help students become visually literate using the language and vocabulary of art in their aesthetic judgements.
  11. Provide artistic experiences that encourage students to realize the intrinsic value of the visual arts in their personal interests, daily lives and career choices.
  12. Promote and enhance the relationship between our visual art program and the community.
