Lincoln's Art Program
As reflected in our District 203 philosophy, goals
and classrooms, our K-12 art staff believes that an effective, comprehensive
art program will:
-
Assist students in developing an awareness and appreciation
for the visual arts including their interdisciplinary relationships.
-
Assist students realization that art is an essential
method of visual communication.
-
Provide students with studio opportunity to experience
and produce art, explore a wide variety of media, tools, technologies and
techniques.
-
Encourage the development of students' confidence
in their own ability to create and reflect upon art, to foster pride and
self-esteem.
-
Teach appropriate use and care of tools.
-
Promote craftsmanship that builds confidence in their
artwork.
-
Develop an appreciation of art in diverse cultures
past and present.
-
Stress creative problem solving and critical thinking
skills in the production, perception, discussion, and assessment of artistic
expression.
-
Use multiple approaches to accommodate a variety
of learning styles, ability levels and behaviors.
-
Help students become visually literate using the
language and vocabulary of art in their aesthetic judgements.
-
Provide artistic experiences that encourage students
to realize the intrinsic value of the visual arts in their personal interests,
daily lives and career choices.
-
Promote and enhance the relationship between our
visual art program and the community.
