Program for Academic Support and Success

Naperville School District 203 has always been concerned with students who are at risk academically.  Over the past ten years, the Project Choice Program was implemented to meet the needs of these students.  Although the program was successful, it was limited to the number of students enrolled and the number of sites available.

In the fall of 1999, a steering committee was formed to develop a new program to be implemented at all five middle schools.  The Program for Academic Support and Success (PASS) was developed to serve regular education students who are at risk academically.  This program has served five times as many students as in the past, while enabling students to remain at their home school.  Transition in and out of the program for students is due in part to the wide range of staff involvement including counselors, social workers, psychologists, and reading specialists.

Through data gathered, surveys and various comments, the effectiveness and benefits of the program are evident for the schools and families of these students.
