Former Bear Revie Sorey inspires sixth graders to make a difference.
The sixth grade Hereos Team at Kennedy Junior High School (KJHS) is looking forward to a special visit with former Chicago Bear Revie Sorey. He is the executive director of Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc., one of the largest human services agencies in the state of Illinois, serving nearly 12,000 families, children, and adults each year.
Sorey will visit Kennedy on Wednesday, March 7th to kick off the students’ service project, which will raise funds for Ada S. McKinley Community Services. The students will secure pledges in advance of their two-hour bowl-a-thon, to be held on March 7th.
Jennifer Donatelli, Kennedy science teacher and Heroes Team leader, describes Sorey as “…one of the most caring and compassionate people around. He is constantly looking for a way to give back to the community and strives to make a difference in the lives of everyone he meets. “
Sorey is sure to make a notable impression on the students. He will easily grab their attention since he played for the Bears for eight seasons, blocking for Walter Payton. The story of his life off of the field will leave an even more lasting impression on the students, bringing to life for them that everyone can make a difference. The events in his life have included receiving help from former New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller early in his life and recovering from a debilitating stroke four years ago.
At Kennedy Junior High School, we strive to develop a healthy and adaptable young person who is a contributing and responsible citizen and life-long learner capable of communicating effectively, thinking critically and making ethical and empathetic decisions. We at Kennedy strive to ensure success for each student. Our school is staffed with dedicated, professional, and caring people.
