HEROES BEHAVIOR POLICY

Here are some helpful hints to a successful year as a Hero team member:

1)  Certain behavior will NOT be tolerated:

a)     Tardiness to class and supervised study

b)     Chewing gum or eating in the classroom

c)      Disruptive behavior in the classroom (talking without raising your hand and being called on by a teacher; writing, reading, or passing notes; making inappropriate comments and/or noises; or any behavior which interferes with the learning environment)

d)     Being anywhere in the building during classes or supervised study without a pass

e)     Insubordinate behavior (disrespect to a teacher or staff member)

f)        Inappropriate dress (wearing clothing, pins, jewelry, etc. that depict or suggest the use of alcohol, drugs, smoking, or sexually explicit messages or symbols)

2)   Please read the pages in your assignment notebook which discuss  behaviors that will result in immediate referral to the assistant principal.

These include but are not limited to: FIGHTING, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, FORGERY, CHEATING, USE OF PROFANE/OBSCENE LANGUAGE, INTENTIONAL DAMAGE TO SCHOOL OR PERSONAL PROPERTY, USE OF DEROGATORY, RACIAL,ETHNIC, AND/OR RELIGIOUS COMMENTS INTENDED TO BE DISRESPECTFUL, AND GROSS INSUBORDINATION.

“Discipline yourself, and others won’t have to.”

Coach, whose teams won a record ten

                                                                  National Championships)

CONSEQUENCES FOR ACTIONS IN NUMBER 1:

STEP 1:

The teacher will give a subtle physical cue (i.e., a look or proximity).

STEP 2:

The teacher will give a verbal warning.

STEP 3:

The student will leave the room and go directly to the closest language arts classroom.  He/she will fill out a behavior check and turn it into the teacher upon return to the classroom.

STEP 4:

Three behavior checks will result in a CPR- Choices Planning Room visit (students will stay after school on a Tuesday or Thursday from 3:00pm to 3:30pm in order to develop a plan/strategy to change the behavior).

STEP 5:

A second CPR results in a parent conference with the student and an office referral.

NOTE:

All Class 2 or 3 offenses as defined by the school discipline handbook will result in an immediate office referral.

We expect that most Heroes will avoid the above behaviors and have a successful year.  However, we want to make sure that every Hero student does not lose his/her way on this important journey into middle school and student responsibility.
