HEROES  TEAM HOMEWORK POLICY

Students can expect 60-90 minutes of homework on most days.  Much of this can be completed in supervised study.  We encourage students to complete the most difficult tasks at school and/or the assignments that  require textbooks (to help lighten the load).

The purpose of homework is threefold:

1.To help the student attain information needed before a unit of study, such as new vocabulary.

2. To have independent practice of a concept learned that day.

3. To review learned information to prepare for tests and quizzes.

The completion of homework is a requirement for all students.  To receive full credit, the student must:

1.     Follow the  directions

2. Have the worked completely and neatly done to the best of his/her ability. Math homework must be completed in pencil. All other homework must be completed in blue or black pen, pencil (print or cursive) or may be typed.  All homework must be properly labeled and done neatly to the student’s best ability to receive full credit.

3.     Turn in the work when it is due. Work will be accepted the following day for half credit. No credit will be given after that time.

Students will receive a “homework check” for any missing or incomplete assignment.  Three “homework checks” in any trimester (12 weeks) will result in an after school  “Choices Planning” session.

These sessions are from 3:00 – 3:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  During this time, students work on responsibility and problem solving skills.

If your child needs to stay after school, you will be notified in writing and asked to return the signed form.  This keeps you informed about your child’s homework completion and lets us know that you are aware of the after school session and will provide transportation home.

A  student/parent conference will be scheduled  any time a student receives more than 6  “homework checks” in a trimester.

Absences – See pg. 4 of the student assignment book for school policy.

1.     If a  student is absent 3 or more days, make-up work may be picked up after 3pm. This is arranged by calling the main office.

2.     For absences of one or two days,  check www.schoolnotes.com/60532/heroes.html  and  ask a teammate  to collect needed materials and books. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for make-up work and turn it in on time.
