After the Tsunami

A Webquest on Southeast Asia

Introduction
As you know, on December 26, 2004, an earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a Tsunami killing over 140,000 people and causing billions of dollars in damage. As if the physical damage wasn't bad enough, the economic damage will impact this region for years since fishing boats and tourist resorts were both destroyed in the tsunami.
The governments of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Malaysia are desperately trying to help their economies recover as fast as possible, and they need your help. Together with your group, you will research one of these countries and come up with a promotional campaign to help attract tourists back to the country.
Task
Each group will have 5-6 people. Here is what each person needs to work on:
Group 1 will find information related to the geography and climate of the country. They will create a map showing physical and political information.
Group 2 will find information related to the people of the country. They will find information about the population, culture, languages, religions, food, economic activities and other cultural information about the country.
Group 3 will find information related to the history of the country. They will find information about significant historical events from ancient times, how the country gained its independence, what type of government they have, and recent issues facing the country.
After researching, your group needs to create some type of visual display to help bring tourists back to the country. You may choose to make a poster or a PowerPoint. You will present your findings to the class in a 3-5 minute presentation. Everyone in the group must take part in this presentation.
Process
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be in the LRC researching.
Help each other out. If you find something that might help one of the other groups out, then help them!
While you are in the LRC, use the resources that you can't access anywhere else.
