SFCP is a school action team that includes the principal, teachers, staff, parents and community members. Its mission is to support the school improvement process by reaching out to involve families and community members in partnership programs and initiatives that contribute to student achievement and success. In November, we began the process of brainstorming program ideas for the next school year. Ozzie�s Reading Club January � March
A school-wide reading program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars offering incentives for students to meet their classroom reading goals.
New Parent Initiative January 31, 2005
An opportunity for new families who move in mid-year to meet with school and parent leaders to welcome, answer questions, provide support and encourage involvement.
Games Around the World Tuesday, February 8th
Sponsored in conjunction with the school�s Diversity Club, an evening of games originating in other countries, highlighting foreign cultures and traditions for the whole family to enjoy.
Parent � Child Book Club Wednesday, February 23rd
A forum for small-group discussion of a particular book that all participants (kids and parents) will have read prior to the evening. It is designed to give children a deep understanding and appreciation for the book. This is the second session.
Science Night Wednesday, April 20th
An interactive, entertaining demonstration, followed by science-themed stations for students and their parents to investigate and enjoy together.
Other On-going services
Take-Home Family Math Backpacks � First-grade families can look forward to a week with a backpack containing great mathematical manipulatives and materials that support the first grade math curriculum and make learning at home fun. They are available for check out through the first grade teachers.
New Parent Initiative � designed to welcome and be a resource for new parents.
Parent Resource Center � located in the front hall, contains books, videos and pamphlets on various parenting topics that can be checked out by any parent or guardian.
Naper Settlement and Science Museum Passes
Available over the holiday break
You can visit a T-Rex named Sue at Sci-Tech in Aurora now through February 20th for free! Museum Passes are available for use by all Highlands families, faculty and staff. The passes offer free admission to Naper Settlement and Sci-Tech museums. They can be obtained from Lori Popelka at 630/428-9847 or 630/248-8351. Remember the Sci-Tech pass may also be used to gain admission to the following local museums: the Chicago Children�s Museum at Navy Pier, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and the Discovery Center Museum in Rockford.
The SFCP team consists of parent volunteers, teaching staff representing each grade, support staff, and the principal. We meet bi-monthly from 2:45-4:00. We encourage all parents/guardians to get involved in some capacity to help your student's school.
