Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award
Highlands participates in the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award each year.
This book award is unique in that the “best” book is selected by vote of children in Illinois who are in grades 4-8.  Twenty books are nominated each year and children must read at least 3 of the books to be eligible to vote.

Of course we encourage students to read as many of these books as they can to make a better-informed vote.  The vote is taken the end of February and the results are announced in mid-March.

Mrs. Van Dyke gives book talks on these books several times a year to the fourth and fifth grade students.
