The Monarch Award
The Monarch Award: Illinois’ K-3 Children’s Choice Award is “designed to encourage Illinois children to read critically and to become familiar with the children’s books, authors and illustrators. This award is named for the Monarch Butterfly and symbolizes the growth, change and freedom that characterize the emergent reader. The Monarch Award is given annually to an author and/or illustrator of a book voted as their favorite by participating K-3 children in Illinois.” Highlands has participated in the Rebecca Caudill Book Award for several years which is a program intended for fourth-eighth grade students in the state of Illinois. The Monarch Award is designed very much like this program.
