General Overview

In October of 1996, Naperville Community Unit School District 203 Board of Education adopted a policy on school-family-community partnerships, directing the Superintendent to develop and implement administrative procedures to promote, support and enable parents/guardians and community members to become more active partners in the education of our children.

Elmwood School responded to this initiative by developing a Parent Involvement Team (School Family Community Team) to facilitate parent involvement in their children's education and to support involvement among families and community members.

The School Family Community Team meets throughout the year after school.  Parents together with teachers and administrators plan strategies to facilitate parent and community involvement aligned with our School Improvement Plan. Programs for the 03-04 year: "Building Resiliency in Our Children", The Multi-Cultural/Art Fair, Dad's Breakfast, Kindergarten Round-up, and Transitioning to 6th grade.  Parent Information Sessions are presented as needed.

The 2003-3004 Parent Involvement Team includes:   Mrs. Kloepper, Mr. Krebs, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs.Rahder, Mrs. Stallman, Mrs. Ferrell, Mrs. Cavlovic, Mrs. Lipman, Mrs. Behr, Mrs. Shamrock, Mrs. Ciha, Mrs. Kolar, Mrs. Tinker, and Mrs. Zeeb.

Parent Resource Center

An outgrowth from the Parent Involvement Team work in 1996-97 was the development of a Parent Resource Center, located in the foyer at Elmwood School.  The team  used district funds to purchase books, pamphlets, audiotapes, and videotapes that are available for Elmwood parents to check-out and review at home.  The materials are housed in a bookcase in the foyer.  In addition, there is a cabinet that houses a TV/VCR combination that parents may use to view the videotapes while they wait for a student.  Parents wishing to take a resource home need only to place their names on a card and leave it with the secretary in the office.

Parent involvement also sponsors activities that link our parents and faculty. This year the School Family Community Team will sponsor and support our Kindergarten Roundup and Parent Information Sessions throughout the year.
