Elmwood's Ducks Hatched and Released
May 3, 2002

The mallard ducks have been seen at Elmwood since Mar.19th.  The school has been looking forward to a new brood of ducklings.

On April 2nd a nest with nine eggs was discovered in the courtyard.

Be sure to read the sign in the hallway.

The mother duck built her nest in a corner of the courtyard.  Mrs. Schaden has again adopted the ducks and makes sure they have water and cracked corn.

Can you find mother duck?

First grade students in Mrs. Anderson's classroom get a close-up view of mother duck sitting on her nest.  They will keep the rest of the school well informed!
They have hatched!  On Monday, April 30, we discovered that all eleven eggs had hatched.  There were shells by the nest.  That was a big clue!

Pictures below are of the ducklings
and students watching them throughout the day!

Ducks are Released

The ducks were coaxed through the hallway by Mr. Yackley.

Mother duck heads out with the ducklings following her.

Mrs. Kendzora's classroom watches the ducks depart.

The ducks are on their way to a long journey to water.

The ducklings follow Mom past the primary playground.

Mrs. Schaden watches the ducks depart.  She had watched over them throughout their time at Elmwood.
