Optimistic-The Wright Brothers
Wilbur and Orville Wright
had always been interested in flight. As little boys, they enjoyed
making gliders and throwing them into the wind. When they became
older, they made a small wooden glider and controlled it with strings like
a kite.
While they were excited
to fly themselves, no one had ever done that before. Some people
had tried, but failed.
The Wright brothers were
optimistic that they could build an airplane that would carry people.
Many laughed at them when they said they would make a plane, but the Wright
brothers did not listen.
On December 17th, 1903
the Wright brothers did indeed achieve flight! Their plane only flew
120 feet, but that did not matter. History had been made! If
they had not been optimistic, they might have given up and we might not
have seen an airplane fly for a long time!
Let's find out more about
the Wright brothers!
