To be mannerly, you act on your best behavior in any situation.
You show that you care and respect others by behaving the best you can.
Why is it important to be mannerly?
It is important to be mannerly because it demonstrates for others how to
act properly and makes life much more pleasant.
How do I demonstrate that I am mannerly?
You demonstrate that you are mannerly by acting politely and on your best
behavior throughout the day. You think of other people around you and
make sure that you are treating them the way you wish to be treated.
You demonstrate that you are mannerly by using polite ways of speaking
and acting throughout each day.
In being mannerly, you think how your behavior is affecting others and
then you do things properly so that they are comfortable.
Effective teaching of manners involves:
-Modeling courtesy- children learn best when they see the specific lessons
consistently modeled right before their eyes
-Mediating T.V.- socialization by T.V. can have its good side, but rudeness
and sarcasm are frequent behaviors modeled on T.V. It's important to know
what your child is watching and discuss with him/her the lessons he/she
may be learning.
-Letting your child know you notice and appreciate their mannerly
expressions and behaviors. Remember, the goal is not perfect behavior,
but the development of a secure individual who is sensitive to others and
knows how to interact in a positive manner.
