Rachel Carson was born
on May 27th, 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania. From a very early
age, Carson was interested in nature. She felt that humans didn't
seem to understand that pollution was harming the earth. Many people,
during that time, sprayed chemicals all over the earth, which was killing
off animals and hurting plants and trees.
Rachel Carson wrote the
book Silent Spring, which informed everyone of the problems which
existed. Rachel also wrote other books and began speaking to audiences
about the importance of treating nature respectfully. Soon, everyone
around the nation began becoming aware about our environment. Laws
were developed to help our environment and keep our earth clean.
Rachel Carson proved to
us that we not only have to be mannerly to the people around us, but also
to the earth we live on!
