Loyal-Betsy Ross
Betsy Ross was born on
January 1, 1752. She was the eighth child of seventeen! Because
she was one of so many children, she had to start helping out with the
chores right away! Betsy discovered she was very good at sewing the
white caps that Quaker girls wore.
She began working as an
upholsterer, by sewing coverings for furniture.
During the Revolutionary
War, George Washington wanted the Colonials to have a flag. He asked
Betsy to make this flag, the symbol for our country. This flag is
what we look at each morning as we say the pledge of allegiance.
It is the symbol of our country, our way of life, our loyalty, our freedom!
