When Eleanor was young,
her family was very wealthy and they lived in a beautiful house, but she
was not very happy. Many thought she looked tall and awkward, and
she was very shy.
However, when she became
older, she married Franklin D. Roosevelt who became president. While
Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, our country suffered a low point in
our history called the Great Depression. During this time, many people
lost their jobs....and their hope.
Eleanor worked very hard
to visit towns and cities all over the country to spread good news and
hope. When she received money for her speeches, she gave it to the
poor.
During World War 2, Eleanor
traveled all over the world to visit sick and hurt soldiers and then she
traveled back again to bring messages to their families.
Eleanor spent most of her
life working hard to help other people's lives better!
