Paul Schweikert Class of
1950
Alumni Recognition Award, 2005 |
Paul
Schweikert, after graduating from Naperville Central in 1950, has became very
successful in the military and received numerous accomplishments. While
attending Naperville Central, Paul participated in various activities, such as
the undefeated 1948 football team, and was a captain for the ’49-’50 track
team. While many of his memories come from his wonderful friends and teachers
at Central, some of his best memories were from playing on the football team.
While Paul was successful on the field he also thrived in the classroom; being
a member of the Honor Society in both his junior and senior year. Paul
accepted a four-year academic scholarship to Stanford University.
Paul decided to decline the
Stanford scholarship once he had been accepted to the United States Military
Academy at West Point. After graduating from West Point in 1954, Paul was
stationed all over the United States and in various parts of the world such as
Germany and Russia. During the time that Paul served in the military, he
received many awards like the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Another very
proud moment came in 1972 when Paul met with President Nixon and the first
lady while they were in Moscow. Paul accompanied the President as he laid the
wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin Wall.
After Paul’s retirement in 1984,
Paul retired in and settled in north of Seattle, in the foothill of the
Cascades with his wife, Elizabeth of nearly 50 years. They have three
children, two girls and one boy. His son Paul III decided to follow in his
father’s footsteps when he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Paul
also has six grandchildren. During Paul’s retirement he is still very active.
He is on the Board of Directors and a Regional Vice President for the National
Association of Uniform Services. Paul is a cherished alumni member because of
his accomplishments during his time at Naperville Central and his success
after graduating.
