Dr. Richard H. Moy comes home to Naperville Central High School one-half century after leaving. A 1949 graduate of Naperville High School, Dr. Moy was involved in the Camera Club, the Aeronautics Club and the National Honor Society, as well as serving as Student Body President while a student. He also worked as a clerk and Apprentice Pharmacist at Oswald's Drug Store from 1945-1949.

After graduating from Naperville High School, Dr. Moy continued his education, receiving his A.B. and his B.S. with honors from the University of Chicago in 1953. He then completed his medical school training, again with honors, from the University of Chicago in 1957. Dr. Moy was an intern at the University of Chicago in 1958. He was a Clinical Associate at the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health from 1958-1960. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1963, when he became Chief Resident.

Dr. Moy continued at the University of Chicago as an Instructor, an Assistant Professor, and later Associate Professor through 1969. He then moved to the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he served as Dean, Provost, and Professor of Medicine from 1970-1993. Dr. Moy was named Dean Emeritus at Southern Illinois University in 1993.

Dr. Moy has been recognized by numerous organizations. Among his many awards and achievements are: Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society; Recognition Award by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine; a Distinguished Service Award from the University of Chicago; a Gold Medallion from the American Lung Association. On September 12, 1993, September 20, 1993, was declared "Richard H. Moy, M.D., Day" in Illinois by Governor Jim Edgar. Dr. Moy was also given formal commendation by the Illinois House, the Illinois Senate, and by Joint Resolution of the House and Senate. In addition to these accolades, Dr. Moy has an Endowed Lectureship in Medical Education and a clinical building in Springfield that honor him by using his name.

Dr. Moy lists numerous writings which have appeared in medical journals around the country. He has also served on countless committees, conducted seminars, and delivered speeches. In 1982, Dr. Moy was a delegate on a People to People Medical Education trip to Africa.

Dr. Moy recalls his best memories of high school as being: the strong support and encouragement to excell in science and mathematics by Mr. Hill and Mr. Holland, falling in love with his future wife, and his involvement with the Camera Club, and closely following the construction of the new high school building way out at the edge of town!

DR. MOY'S MESSAGE FOR NAPERVILLE CENTRAL STUDENTS:  Regardless of what you think you will be doing ten years from now, you are now preparing your self for something that will probably be far more exciting.
