LYNNE NOLAN
Class of 1982
Alumni Recognition Award, 2000 |
Lynne Nolan becomes the second member of the distinguished Class of
1982 to receive the Alumni Recognition. Lynne’s good friend, Terri
Laughlin-Galanti was a member of the Alumni class of 1996.
Lynne began running at a very young age, and she has not stopped running
since. While at Naperville Central, Lynne was a four-year member
of the Redskin track and cross-country teams. She still holds the
record for the fastest mile. Lynne also served on the Student Council,
worked on the school yearbook (Arrowhead), and on the student newspaper
(Smoke Signals). Lynne was named to the National Honor Society as
a junior at NCHS.
Ms. Nolan earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois
at Champaign-Urbana. Following her graduation from Illinois, Lynne
spent a year studying cell physiology overseas at the University of Nice.
Lynne is fluent in French.
It was during her tenure in Champaign that Lynne discovered another
passion, Ultimate Frisbee. Lynne has been involved with Ultimate
as the captain of the Chicago Nemesis Team, an organizer of national level
tournaments, as secretary of the national governing body for the sport,
and as the publisher of Chicago Area Disc Sports Magazine.
Ms. Nolan returned to Naperville Central in 1988 to join the faculty
as a teacher of biology and physics. She received the Sallie Mae
Outstanding First Year Teacher Award. During her years as a member
of the Science Department at NCHS, Lynne served as the creator and advisor
to the Rotary Interact Club, the advisor to the senior class, and a coach
of JV girls’ soccer. Ms. Nolan was also involved in the creation
of a Frisbee team and was involved in the origins of the NCHS Alumni Recognition
Committee.
Lynne Nolan moved to Neuqua Valley High School in 1997. At Neuqua,
Lynne founded Interact and visited schools in New Zealand during a five-week
Rotary International Exchange study tour. She is also the head girls’
soccer coach at Neuqua, and she facilitates Neuqua’s New Teacher Induction
Program.
MS. NOLAN’S MESSAGE FOR NCHS STUDENTS: None of us is in this
world for themselves; we are here for one another. Choose to make
a difference.
