Dr. Caryl Towsley Moy,

Dr. Caryl Towsley Moy returns to Naperville Central High School 49 years
after leaving on a personal and professional life journey that has simple
been extraordinary. An outstanding student and an active citizen while
at Naperville High School, Caryl Moy was Editor of the Smoke Signals (school
newspaper), a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Future
Homemakers of America, a member of the Arrowhead yearbook staff, and a
1950 Illinois FHS Scholarship winner.
After graduating from Naperville High School in 1950, Dr. Moy received
her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education at the University of
Illinois in 1954. She was selected for several University honoraries, including
Pi Kappa Phi, and Mortarboard. Dr. Moy received a Master of Arts in Social
Work from the University of Chicago in 1969. She became a Doctor of Philosophy
through the Health Education Department at Southern Illinois University
in Carbondale, in 1980. Dr. Moy's post-doctoral work was in Family Therapy
Supervision Training and Research through Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Moy's career path began as an instructor and chairperson in the
Home Economics department at Evergreen Park High School. She moved to Springfield
and became an instructor and college counselor at Lincoln Land Community
College in 1970. After three years at Lincoln Land, Dr. Moy moved across
town, in 1975, to Sangamon State University (Now the University of Illinois
at Springfield) and became an Associate Professor of Sociology and University
Counselor. She received full Professor status in 1985, and was named Professor
Emeritus in 1993. In addition to her work at Sangamon State, Dr. Moy has
been a Visiting Professor of Health Management at Sun Yat-Sen University
of Medical Sciences Guangzhou, in the People's Republic of China, as well
as an Adjunct and Clinical Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and
Family Practice at Southern Illinois University.
Dr. Moy has numerous memberships in professional organizations as well
as certification in a variety of family welfare endeavors. She was honored
my Marquis' Who's Who in the Midwest and as an Outstanding Alumna from
the University of Illinois School of Human Resources and Family Studies.
She has been published numerous times in professional journals.
Dr. Moy remembers fondly her sophomore English class with Miss Scroggie,
learning personal details about many authors and memorizing poetry which,
"was not a lot of fun at the time, but the poems have stayed with me and
enriched my life." She also remembers Miss Derry's Home Economics classes
where she was inspired to develop into a family sociology professional.
Of course, Dr. Moy remembers falling love with Dick Moy so obviously that
teachers quietly gave approving comments.

and fun in each subject. Read avidly. Write well. Perfect spelling and
grammar. Knowing these will open doors for you.
