SUSAN GLATZHOFER GREER
Class of 1969

Alumni Recognition Award, 2000

Susan Glatzhofer Greer returns to Naperville Central 31 years after first leaving as a graduating high school senior.  The return trip is not a long one, however, as Mrs. Greer need only come one quarter mile south to reunite with old friends and acquaintances.  Susan Greer has spent most of her professional life working at Edward Hospital.

Susan Glatzhofer became a volunteer at Edward when she was 14 years old, when she became a volunteer in the “Candystriper” program.  Edward Hospital was relatively new and much smaller than today.  While a student at Naperville Community High School, Mrs. Greer was involved in the Future Nurses of America and in the Leaders Club.  She received the first scholarship awarded by the Edward Hospital Auxiliary to a student entering the healthcare industry.

Mrs. Greer married Chuck Greer (NCHS ’67) and worked at Moser Lumber while earning her Associate’s Degree and obtaining her license as a registered nurse.  She began working at Edward Hospital in 1977.  Mrs. Greer has served as the charge nurse in three departments—post-surgical, intermediate cardiac care, and currently, same day surgery.  She is a new employee preceptor and instructor, has served on peer review, clinical ladder and quality control committees.  Continuing education has earned her certification in intravenous access, cardiac monitoring and ventilator care.

Susan Greer has represented Edward Hospital at various trade and health fairs in the community, offers CPR instruction to members of the community through the hospital and volunteers to help the homeless through the PADS program at Bethany Lutheran Church.  Mrs. Greer was also named a Stephen Minister through Bethany Church.

Susan and Chuck Greer currently live on the same piece of land her parents brought her to as an infant.  Their own children are Eric, who has a master’s in structural engineering from the University of Illinois, and Candace, a sophomore majoring in nursing at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

MRS. GREER’S MESSAGE FOR NCHS STUDENTS: Take care of yourself and follow your dreams.  If you believe in yourself and try hard enough, anything is possible.  No one can do this but you, yourself.
