While at Naperville Central, Terrie was a member of the varsity women's basketball and track teams, the Math Team (was president), and the Math Club. She was a National Merit Semi-Finalist and the Valedictorian of the Class of 1982. Then, in the spring of 1986, Terri graduated first in her class from the United States Air Force Academy, becoming the first woman to ever do so in the academy's 32 year history. She earned her standing through a combined average of academic and military performance grades. She was also named "Outstanding Student in Electrical Engineering," "Outstanding Student in Engineering,"and "Outstanding Cadet in Graduation Order of Merit." She also received "The National Science Foundation Fellowship," the "U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal" and the Meritorious Service Medal." After her academy days, Terri sent to Stanford University to earn her Master's in Electrical Engineering. From there she was assigned to the Air Force's Space division, where, among other things, she worked on the Milstar Program. She achieved the rank of Captain while working for the U.S. Air Force Space Programs. In 1990 Terrie McLaughlin became Mrs. John Galanti and is currently serving as a stay-at-home Mom with a two year old daughter and infant triplets! In her spare time she is a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and works as an Admissions Liaison Officer with high school students in the Northern Virginia area.
